"The Moores of Portsmouth Ohio" is a Moore family history assembled by William Moore in 1951 and reprinted in 1963 by Nancy Williamson.  The cover sheet states, "Assembled and presented with filial pride by W. G. Moore,  Sewickley, Pennsylvania,  March 21^st, 1951" and "Reprinted December 1963, In appreciation – N. H. W."  The original layout, spellings, and dates have been retained in this transcription.

William Moore was born in 1882 and is the youngest child of Enos Moore (1823-1906) & his second wife Mary Ellen Switzer.  William is the grandson of Levi Moore (1793-1865) & Amanda Gunn (1793-1888) and the great grandson of Philip Moore (1755-1823) and Jemima Lewis (1759-1820).

The English Roots by William Moore.  This document traces the ancestry of the Portsmouth Moores to Reverend John Moore of Kent County, England.  Much of William's data comes from research done by his Uncle William Moore (1813-1902) and his sister Mary Moore.

Informal History This document is written by William Moore's sister Mary Moore in 1946 and discusses the arrival of the Moore family in what is now Portsmouth.  This document includes stories about Levi Moore (1793-1865), Amanda Gunn (1793-1888) and their four sons, Milton, William, Enos and Samuel.

Footnotes This document is written by William Moore as a footnote to his sister's informal history and includes stories and remembrances about William's father Enos Moore (1823-1906) and his three uncles William (1813-1902), Samuel (1838-1911) and Milton (1819-1855).
