Urick burials in the Saylor Graveyard

Philip Urick and his family are found in Elizabeth Township, Miami county in the 1870 and 1880 census.  The Saylor Graveyard is in Bethel Township  south of the Elizabeth-Bethel Road (aka County Road 168), on the second lane west of State Route 201, in a field.  Uricks are buried in the Saylor Graveyard from 1863 through 1891.   

In the early years the name URICK was spelled EURICK.  Four of Philip and Savilla's children, William, Joseph, Tilla and George are buried in Saylor cemetery between the years of 1863-1872 with the spelling Eurick on their grave markers.

The large stone in the foreground is a double marker for Phillip Urick and Savilla Bowers Urick.  The smaller stones to the right are for their children.  In chronological order:

  • A small grave stone lists Joseph son of P & C Eurick April 18 1863 [or Aug?] aged 2 years 4 months

  • A small grave stone lists William son of P & C Eurick Nov 19 1868 aged 8 years 8 months and 19 days.  Per Harriet Urick, Billy was riding a horse and went under a low branch which jerked him off the horse and killed him

  • A small double grave stone lists George A 1871 and Tilla J March 26 1872 5 years 11 mos 2 days children of P & C Eurick.  A death certificate states that Matilda J Urick died of brain fever.

  • The large grave market lists: Savilla wife of Philip Urick Aug 27 1883 aged 51 and Philip 10-23-1891 at age 82y 11m 9d [or 72 y 11m 9d?]
