William Moore was born in what is now Portsmouth Ohio, October 08, 1813, one of four sons of Levi Moore and Amanda Gunn.  This letter was written by William Moore in 1896 at age 82 to one of his cousins about the Moore family history.

The original letter was found in several boxes of Frances Moore Geiger family papers in a small box marked, "Aunt Mary Moore’s things, DAR material and poems sent from Honolulu".  Frances and Mary Moore are the daughters of Enos Moore and Maria Pratt, granddaughters of Levi Moore and great granddaughters of Philip Moore and Jemima Lewis.  This box also included a variety of other family papers mostly pertaining to the Moore, Dewey and Deming families.
