William Robey Jr. Letter 1870

William Robey Jr. was born in Maryland, Nov. 15, 1777, the son of William Robey Sr. and Jemima Lewis Robey. As a young child, William's father was killed by Indians and his mother remarried to Philip Moore in 1782. This letter was written by William Robey Jr. in 1870 at age 92 to his nephew William Moore (1813-1902) and recounts the history of the Moores and Robeys. William Moore was the son of Levi Moore and grandson of Philip Moore and Jemima Lewis. The original letter was found in several boxes of Geiger family papers in an envelope marked "To: Mrs Fanny Moore Geiger From: W G Moore". Frances Moore Geiger (1860-1857) was the daughter of Enos Moore, granddaughter of Levi Moore and great granddaughter of Philip Moore and Jemima Lewis. W. G. Moore is a younger William Moore, half brother to Frances. This envelope was marked "DAR matters" (Daughters of the American Revolution) and also included a variety of other family papers mostly pertaining to the Moore family. The letter is very faded and threadbare with old pieces of tape holding portions of the it together.
